Periorbital  facial surgery and special eyelid surgery

Spring academy of the VDAEPC in Cologne April 11-12
The main subject was the midfacelift. This technique improves the results after the surgery for the atony of the lower eyelids. For this I assisted an acquainted colleague, Dr Eren in Cologne. It gave me the chance to acquire this technique, which I have successfully used on several occasions.

Secondary surgery with breast implants

Madrid march 7-8 2008
This was a very important symposium. It has strongly encouraged my decision to use the subfascial breast enlargement technique. The problems of the position of the implant epipectorally as well as retropectorally were clearly depicted. The presenter Tom Biggs, a very experienced American plastic surgeon predicted that within the next five years the majority of plastic surgeons will use solely the subfascial technique.
The outcomes using this technique have been outstanding and therefore I will continue using it.

Barker-Gordon symposium on cosmetic surgery

Miami, FL February 7-9 2008
One of the most important symposia for aesthetic surgery. New techniques were introduced and critically evaluated, such as the laser lipolyse. So far however this technique does not show any significant advantage.

International symposium for plastic surgeons: advances in breast surgery

Munich, December 7-8 2007
This top class symposium was organised by Prof. Feller. The topics covered different possibilities of breast reconstruction as well as the question whether it is best to operate prophylactically if there is a high risk of getting breast cancer.

1st QMP Symposium on reconstructive surgery

St Louis Missouri September 28-30 2007
The topics encompassed many areas of plastic and reconstrucive surgery.

IPRAS congress in Berlin

June 25-30 2007
This congress was very interesting and much time was spent listening, observing and discussing. As I am always on the quest to improve and simplify my work it has been an exciting few days. Using the subfascial technique when doing breast enlargements has been very well received as this method has several advantages. The main advantage is less pain as the breast muscle stays untouched.

ELOS workshop Nuremberg

September 23 2006
Interesting lecture on the physical basics of the ELOS technology.
Examples of use: epilation, treatment of spider veins, facial erythrosis, skin rejuvenation and tightening.

Annual convention of the American Society of Plastic Surgery

San Francisco, October 6-11 2006
This congress was one of the most inspiring of the last couple of years. There was an intensive exchange among the participants. I took part in a number of courses which were impressive.
  1. Face lift  and neck lift
There are a number of formidable plastic surgeons in this area. Bruce Connell and Bahman Guyuron talked about their work and showed the results they have achieved
  2. Upper and lower eyelid lift
An interesting three hour course with Henry Spinelli, a plastic surgeon from NYC who has written a book on this topic. He eloquently described which methods and techniques he uses.
  3. Body lifts
Since the techniques have already been drastically improved and standardised, this course referred to the safety measures employed during the surgical inervention, especially after dramatic weight loss.
  4. Hand surgery with local anaesthesia and no tourniquet
I’ve included the technique of operating without tourniquet into the practice as it improves the comfort of the operation.
